Hi hello Wil Williams here and I am beyond delighted to say that Tink is at the 2024 RESONATE Podcast Festival!
RESONATE Podcast Festival is the place where producers meet their peers and newcomers meet their heroes. Over two days at the Institute for Contemporary Art in Richmond, VA, attendees will be treated to workshops from skilled producers, a special live performance, and the opportunity to get private pitch feedback from industry veterans. Between sessions, you will enjoy snacks, visit our cafe, see our art exhibitions, and converse with people who love podcasts as much as you do.
So far, this event has been so inspiring, so moving, and so insightful. I can’t wait for day 2!
If you weren’t able to make it this year — tickets sell out FAST — don’t worry; I’m live tweeting every single session I attend. Don’t worry if you’re not on X! You can also find doc versions of all of my live tweets (sans images) in this Google folder.
Live tweets start below, but also hey, live tweeting (especially the way I do it, with pictures and links and quotes and love and gusto) is a lot of work. So if you’re not subscribed, this would be a great time to do that — both so you can get tomorrow’s dispatch and because it would be really nice.
🐤Live tweets
Nichole Hill - Fabulously Real
In this session I’ll share techniques I’ve learned from the world of audio fiction to enhance my non-fiction storytelling and build a show where listening to history doesn’t feel like homework.
Gabby Bulgarelli - Story Shape Up
A great story can fall apart easily without the right structure. So let me upgrade your structure with some tried and true methods to unf*ck your reporting when it is bent out of shape. In this presentation producer Gabby Bulgarelli will discuss navigating roadblocks, drawing from her experiences producing narrative shows like Mogul and Louder Than A Riot.
Jazmine Green and Sarah Esocoff - Gaylors: Taylor Swift Superfans and the Anti-Story Story
For nine months, I embedded with an online community of people who believe Taylor Swift is gay. In the process, I re-thought my relationship to “story.” When is “story” a bad thing? When does it simplify art to the point of cliché, or even disrespect to the subject? In this talk, Sounds Gay creator Sarah Esocoff speaks with Editor Jazmine Green about the unique approach to audio storytelling they developed for Sounds Gay.
James Kim - Abandon Perfection
I came up through public radio and was taught to remove any background noise, all the p-pops, ums, and likes. And now that style of removing every imperfection actually sounds less human. We’ll talk about breaking the rules that we were taught in audio storytelling, and “throwing more dirt” into making something.
Mia Lobel - Building Resiliency Through Community in Turbulent Times
Amid the recent industry upheaval, building community is not only helpful, it can be transformative. AIR Board member and veteran podcast executive Mia Lobel will share her own story of resilience and will offer provocative ideas about how we can change our industry for the better through collaboration.
Avery Trufelman - Summon the Muse
A thesis on the relation between time and production, followed by a live interview with RESONATE’s own Chioke l'Anson.
📸And some pictures!
See you tomorrow! 🎉🎉🎉
Summary of my dreams!
One year I will make it! Thanks for sharing :)
