Spring seems to finally be here (nobody jinx it!), and brings with it a bit of hope in the air. It seems like the right time for us to kick off the Vibe Month, here at Podcast Marketing Magic!
At Tink, we’re always talking about how we match podcasts based on audience and vibe alignment. When you think about our philosophy of making podcast friends, it makes a lot of sense. Think about actual friends for a second – haven’t you ever met someone and thought that you vibed with them instantly? Or thought that the vibes were off? So, why shouldn’t we make podcast friends based on vibes?
But, what does that actually mean? Plus, how to go about doing that in a very practical, non-woo woo way? That’s what Wil and I are going to be covering this month!
💖 Pairing Podcasts Based on Vibes
When we’re considering which podcast to match someone with, we think of them as a person. We consider their characteristics, habits, who they might appeal to, and what listening to them feels like. Most importantly – what do two podcasts have in common that only you can see!
There’s a few ways to go about that. Here’s how I do it (and you’re going to need your imagination hat on for this one) –
Imagine you’re having dinner with two of your friends – X and Z. X and Z have not met each other before but you’re best friends with them separately. You leave the room to take an important call and are gone for 5+ minutes. What will X and Z talk about? Do they even have anything they can talk about? If yes, it’s a vibe match!
💡 This isn’t exactly new – anthropomorphizing your product to market it is an age-old technique. And it’s extremely useful! Wil will be covering more of this in their upcoming issue on creating a podcast avatar.
🤝 Podcast Vibe-Match Done Right (Examples)
I asked the Tink team to share some examples on how they think of a podcast when vibe-matching it. All of the podcasts they shared are some of our most successful vibe-matches. The template, which you can use, was –
<podcast> is <adjective> and <adjective>. Match it with shows that feel like <something>.
💛 If this makes NO sense to you, don’t worry. This month is all about helping you create such statements. We’re here to TINK-ify your podcast growth process!
Hopefully these examples our team shared will help:
Kelly Corrigan Wonders is wholesome and introspective. We matched it with shows that feel like a hug from an old friend.
Critical Role’s Midst is magical and whimsical. We matched it with shows that feel like undertaking an audio adventure.
Midnight Facts for Insomniacs is mind-bending yet relaxing in a dark gothic way. We matched it with true crime that doesn't take itself too seriously.
Cramped is bold, smart and culturally curious. We matched it with shows that feel like chatting over coffee with your smartest friend, with zero shame.
Close Your Eyes is intimate, haunting, and surreal. We matched it with shows that feel like stepping into someone else's dream (moody, mysterious yet grounded).
Normal Curves is sexy and nerdy. We matched it with smart shows that know how to let loose and have a good time.
Nonprofits Now: Leading Today is timely and resourceful. We matched it with shows that feel like the trusting advice of a friend when you're at a crossroads.
Arts Educators Save the World is creative and quirky. We matched it with podcasts that hold their listeners with grace and joy in their artistic journeys.
🌚 Shameless plug-in – if you like this idea, you can always book a Podcast Therapy with us and ask the team all sorts of questions about creating friendships based off of vibes. (Podcast ones, and real ones too if you like!) Tell them Shreya sent you teehee.
So buckle in for Vibes Month because it’s gonna be a supernaturally fun ride! And you never know, you might find a podcast friendship written in the stars at the end of it all.

🎥 From the Desk of Tink
I’m ready to risk losing friends over how annoying I’m going to be with how often I mention this – we’re working with That Aged Well! This movie podcast was recommended to me by a fellow-Dirty Dancing fan, back in 2019. Ever since then, I’ve tried not to miss a single episode.
Hosts and pop culture fanatics Paul and Erika cover yesterday’s pop culture...today. In every episode, they watch movies from their childhood and young adult-hood and wonder – did these movies affect their world views? How badly should Paul and Erika feel for loving them? And, most importantly, should they ever watch them again? If you, like me, enjoy discussions full of spoilers on decades-old movies, this is for you!
Aaaand that’s all, folks! Next week, Wil returns with more podcast marketing magic.
Thanks for reading,
✨ Shreya
