Hi! Shreya here <3
Last week, Wil warmed us up to the idea of podcasting from an astrology lens. (Please read this fantastic issue to feel called out in the best way possible!) Today, we’re going to zoom out to see what lessons can podcast marketing learn from astrology.
Whether astrology makes you cringe or not, you can’t deny that it’s suddenly overtaken our digital zeitgeist. At 11:11s all around the world, internet astrologists often locate me, passionately explaining how everything in my life will solve itself because Mercury is no longer in the microwave.
These internet astrologists must have done something right for astrology to become such a phenomenon. This is just my humble attempt to understand what we can learn from them.
Before we begin…
It needs be said that I am NOT an astrology critic at all. How can one who loves Skyline Drive so much be?
⭐ Craft your brand and lean into it, unabashedly
This seems to be the biggest lesson honestly. Despite the love and hate and indifference they receive, astrologers have built a brand they vibe with. They’ve created something they wanted to see, and are now sharing it with the world. Our favorite podcasts seem to do the same, don’t they?
⭐ Treat timing with the respect it deserves
One thing I admire about astrologers is their ability to craft meaningful and quick content around events such as retrogrades and eclipses. This is something podcasters can do! Plan your podcast launches and major announcements with strategic foresight. Align your release dates with trending topics or events to capture maximum attention.
⭐ Segment your content according to your audience
Astrologers are so good at segmenting content for signs – be it Earth, Air, Fire, and Water or Sun, Rising, and Moon. Podcasters can do this too! If you can segment your audience, either in terms of how often they listen or what kind of episodes they enjoy, you can create content that’s relevant to most of them.
⭐ Diversify your presence, and shoot for the stars
You’ll often find astrologers also doubling up as tarot readers, manifestation experts, and even artists. What they’re doing is simple – finding other adjacent genres their audience likes to consume (and that they enjoy too), and venturing into that. Podcasters can do the same! Your audience is listening to other types of podcasts. Ask them what they are and you’ll find a WHOLE new set of shows to collaborate with.
The best thing about podcast marketing is that you can play around with it! Inspiration for play can be found in so many different places, even in the starry corners of the internet.

Happy Pride! It’s that time we celebrate the bravery of queer folks before and around us. These histories are often dominated by modern Western narratives, but research increasingly shows that premodern Asia was rich in sexual diversity. That’s where Nuances comes in. On its newest season, Queering Premodern Asia, the award-nominated producer LAZOU brings these stories to light with queer Asian guest hosts and scholars. The 6-episode narrative series will focus on premodern Asia, its sexual diversity, and the effects of modernization on attitudes towards gender, desire, and marriage. Personally, I’m a fan.
