Happy Friday! If you’ve been reading our newsletter for any period of time, you know we are big fans of promo swaps.
From how to put your best promo swap forward to using Chartable to make the most of them, we’ve covered different aspects of a promo swap. Today, we’ll be sharing some of our favorite podcasts that personalize promo swaps to perfection.
✨ Personalized promo swaps
Promo swaps can be of two kinds: host-read and pre-recorded. In the case of a host-read swap, the host of the show you’re placing your promo on reads the script. In the case of a pre-recorded swap, you’ll share an audio file that the host of the other show then places in their podcast.
Spoiler alert: host-read promo swaps work better! Simply because it doesn’t break a listener’s flow and sounds more authentic than a recorded one.
So, let’s look at podcasts that personalize promo swaps and make them super pleasant to listen to. Each of these hosts took the promo sent to them and did two things right:
✅ Included essentials about the podcast they are promoting.
✅ Added their own special twist to it.
Without further ado:
The Best Advice Show’s promo read for CERCA (at 0:00)
Zak Rosen does a fantastic job of starting strong with a promo. Typically, promos at the beginning could turn listeners off but not this one. This promo tells us what to expect in the episode we’re about to listen to, the podcast network Zak is promoting, and why you might enjoy it. 10/10!
How to Do the Pot’s promo read for About a Girl (at 12:45)
Host Ellen Scanlon created a ‘How to Do the Pot Podcast Club’ segment within her show that lends itself perfectly to personalized promos. She and her team want to share new podcasts they’re loving with their audience. It makes it feel specially curated and helps you know you’re getting a thoughtful recommendation. It barely feels like a promo swap and the value is high!
Taboo Science’s promo read for Free From Desire (at 0:00)
Ashley Hamer added a promo for Free From Desire to her episode on asexuality because it made a lot of sense as a content match. But what makes the promo really stick is how Ashley points out the reasons it resonated with her. What made her want to listen and keep listening? She shares what she enjoyed about it and seamlessly mixes in the key information about the show itself.

💣 From the Desk of Tink
We’re switching things up this week to share not a podcast, but an author we’re working with! Meet: Sadia Azmat, the author of Sex Bomb. Previously featured on BBC One and Channel 5, Sadia is a hijab-wearing Muslim woman who loves sex.
Sex Bomb is a hilarious debut that explores the challenges of dating as a hijab-wearing woman, navigating multiple identities as a Muslim sister, comedian, friend, and an outspoken individual. The book follows Sadia's journey as she breaks free from the boxes she's existed in her entire life, delivering an impactful message with laughter.
🎧 In 2018, Sadia launched her critically acclaimed BBC podcast No Country For Young Women which was named one of the ‘Best audio of 2018’ by the Observer and was an Apple Top pick for 2018.
